A Day at the Napa Junior Livestock Auction: Celebrating Agriculture and Community

On August 10, 2024, Slarve Construction went to the Napa Junior Livestock Auction, an event that displays the strength of the agricultural roots in this community. The auction was hosted at the Napa Valley Expo, and is an important annual event that connects local youth involved in 4-H and FFA with supportive community members, all while fostering an appreciation for agriculture and livestock farming.

The kids involved display incredible dedication and passion. Each participant has invested time and effort to raise their animal, managing costs, feeding schedules, and health care—all while balancing school and other responsibilities. They understand the value of hard work and the rewards that come with it, and it's evident in the way they talk about their animals and experiences. The local businesses, organizations, and individuals step up to support these young people by bidding on their animals. This being our first time we were surprised at how high the pricing got for some of the animals.

Participating in the auction is an opportunity to directly contribute to these kids' educations and futures. Whether bidding on animals or donating to the cause, the funds raised will go a long way in helping them continue their work and develop their skills. Many buyers also donate the purchased livestock back to the community (via Salvation Army), allowing for additional funds to be raised for charitable causes.

As a company we bid and won a Reserve Champion Lamb, that was later butchered by local butcher Browns Valley Meat. The lamb was raised by Kevin Chavez of Valley Ranchers 4-H.

This San Francisco laundry room by Slarve Construction shows how a glass-paneled entry door is a smart way to bring light into a windowless room. And that abundance of light allowed the remodeling team to embrace dark, moody custom cabinetry and millwork. Brick flooring in a herringbone pattern adds texture and style, while a folding counter and a utility sink with a drying rod above deliver function.

In Lafayette, California, this relatively narrow wet bar by Slarve Construction packs in the home-bar most-wanteds: a drinks fridge, a bar sink, open and closed storage and task lighting. The small wood-finish drawers with cutout handles — which match the wood floating shelves and bring out the warm veins in the stone slab — make a big style impact.

This charming black-and-cream laundry room by Slarve Construction has the same handy pullout shelves as the previous space. The feature can also provide extra folding surface. Elevated front-loading machines ease access. A black-and-white checkerboard floor brings the palette together.

Homeowners’ request. “The homeowner wanted a space off the garage where they could drop backpacks and shoes,” Lindsay Slarve of Slarve Construction says.
